I am assisting the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans as Technical Editor for Guitarmaker magazine. I know that many of you are ASIA members and since this is a very active forum, I thought I would ask you guys for help. I am looking for ideas for articles, things you would like to know more about, as well as, articles that you might like to write yourself. Generally, articles can be on any aspect of lutherie. However, the technical articles that I am interested in involve building and repair. Any ideas or volunteer writers? From reading OLF from time to time, it seems that there are more builders than repair people on the forum. Are there any repair techniques you would like to see covered in Guitarmaker? Your help is appreciated. If you would like to contact me direct, you can e-mail me at stringhospital@cinci.rr.com.

Thanks for stopping by and seeking input Neil. I, for one, think that a regular column on a different aspect of repair would be wonderful. This column should include a repair procedure that would talk technique and any special tools either purchased or constructed, to complete the repair. I am in the middle of replacing a fretboard on a fretless Yamaha bass, I am actually going to radius the new one today! But taking it of was a bit tricky and it would have been good to have some reference to look at.

Thanks and I look forward to your continued work with Guitarmaker.

Shane

Hi Neil,
Well, the only thing I could write about myself is taking the shrink wrap off the Zootman's wood when it arrives....but, I agree with Shane on the repair idea...how to solve problems we're presented with as well as those we create ourselves! How about an article on shop-made tools and/or jigs? Some of the ingenuity on this forum amazes me!

I always like to see jigs in lots of detail.

Maybe you should consider re running some old articles. The Ryan jig article is FANTASTIC and a few from Bob Taylor were very inspirational too.

I bet a lot of the current membership has never seen these.

As a beginner (only one guitar) i would love to see articles about different techniques with photos of the building process and plans for jigs too, i guess i'm just spoiled with everything i saw here so far and just want more but when i think of it, i already got it all!
