I know that some of you guys with bending blankets will tape your bindings to the edge of the side to be bent, and bend the whole shootin' match at the same time. I'm concerned that the heat and pressure may drive the tape's mastic deep into the wood pores, and make a mess that even scraping may not fix. What kind of tape do you use, if you're taping bindings to the edge of the sides for bending? Thanks, Dennis |

I have used the blue, green, plain white, and even the brown binding type. Little sanding/scraping has always worked. |

I mostly use the brown tape. I sometimes use the 3M or Scotch Tape that is impervious to CA. |

I tape the pieces together tightly & tape them to the side with any old masking tape that's handy. After ruining a nice set of figured maple bindings... I wrap the bindings in foil seperately, to prevent colour bleeding from one wood into the other. No reason not to get your side purflings into the act at the same time. And... make sure you remove all the tape residue soon after bending. If it sits around for a while it gets very difficult to remove. Holy Smoke! I just noticed I made it to "senior member"... I think you guys had better raise your standards. ![]() |
