I was skimming a thread a few days ago, where there was some talk about using the stew mac saddle slotting jig with a lam trimmer. heres what I did, I got an 1/8" to 1/4" conversion collet and a 3/32nds down spral bit, and drill and counter sink new holes to fit my porter cable. works like a charm.... hope this is usefull info

I liked it. Thanks for posting it Matt. I'm ready to start fabricating my own too. Just one of those details required for making a bridge. Does this jig have a tilt slot capability like the other thread queried? I saw the Hoover comments regarding Santa Cruz Guitfiddles too. Interesting, except the were stating the saddled tilted toward the nut, but meant pins. They didn't fool me. |

Thanks, Matt (I'm the guy who started that other thread). I haven't tried using one of those adapter collets yet, and was wondering how well they work. BTW, spiral bits (upcut and downcut) in sizes down to 1/8" are available with 1/4" shafts. I'm just adding that tidbit of info for anyone who may think the only small spiral bits are those 1/8" shaft ones you can get from Stewmac. I haven't seen any 1/4" shaft bits as small as 3/32", so if you want to use a bit that size or smaller with a lam trimmer, the only option is to use an adapter collet as far as I know. |
