I was looking over some of the guitars at the Eporium website (great find Don) and I came across this guitar by Charles Fox (Peter M. also noted it in theat thread)

I was intrigued by the side profile and the neck attachment. Its almost as if its an archtop guitar. Has anyone else tried this type of joint? If so, how does the guitar sound? It looks heavy, is it?

yup, I was very intrigued by it too! I'm more curious about the way it sounds and it does not look like it has any neck angle?

I believe Greg Smallman does this and some other builders as well. It's to give easier access to the upper regions of the fret board. When I'm a bit more confident in my building abilities I'm going to give it a try.

No offense to Charles or others who have done this...but it's Ugly...

I went searching for a Greg Smallman with the raised fretboard and couldn't find any so maybe I was wrong about that, but I did find some other guys doing it.

I believe we had another/similar thread on this. McPherson guitars have a very similar neck/body joint except there's floats over the top more like an archtop. They are pushing it as an "advantage".
