I am, I am!

Just wondering if I will be meeting any of you face to face next week. I am
really looking forward to this class (as well as finally finding out how Ervin
pronounces his last name! )

I am originally from the East Bay, but I haven't been back since I was
bitten by the lutherie bug, so if anyone has any must-see suggestions I
would be grateful.

I might be staying a night in Auburn after the class, so I might just
have to drop in on a few of you in the area!

Looking forward to it, if not the drive. It snowed here today...

Cheers,
-Davedgalas38763.0661342593

Hey Dave,

Lucky Lucky! I'm sure you'll enjoy Ervin's class.

Where to go in Berkeley. It's more like where not to go! Lot's of opportunity. There are two Ukulele makers within a mile of each other in Berkeley (Pohaku & DaSilva). Pohaku is adjacent to John Phillips, a Harpsichord builder (only in Berkeley!). If you can get in to see any of John's work, it will be worth it. Also DaSilva has a stage right in the middle of his live/work space so he has things going on on a regular basis. Check his calendar page. OH! then there's the Freight & Salvage. A great place to see a good acoustic show. OOH! And The Starry Plough - some serious great-beer quaffing to be had there.
I won't even start about where to eat...

Have Fun!

Hey Alan,

Thanks for the info. I'll do some digging and check some of those out.

It's a big expense, but from everything I've heard the course is worth it. I am
really looking forward to it. The timing isn't great (actually, it flat out
sucks!), but again, I'm sure it will be worth it. Really looking forward to it.

Cheers,
-Dave

I'm definitely thinking of trying to come waste a bit of your time with a
quick shop visit if you might be so generous. I'll PM you.

Alan,

Thanks again for the links. Looks like Hamilton de Holanda & Mike
Marshall will be playing @ Freight & Salvage next week. Won't miss it!
Thanks again.

Cheers,
-Dave

Sounds good Dave, just let me know when you'll be around. Good excuse (like I need one) to clean up the shop.

Dave, Maybe I'll join you on your trip to John's (if that's OK w/ John). I live in Folsom - about 20 minutes from Cool / Auburn.

I may be going to the May class. I went to a Feb. Class several years ago. I know there's still more I need to learn.

You guys are talking about visiting "this guy" and "that guy"...when I was at Somogyi's we worked from early morning until dark. I was so tired I barely made it back to the hotel. Although, there were so many talented luthiers there that I always tried to stay as long as possible and chat...learned a lot from just that! You guys are going to love this class...take lots of notes and tons of pictures. Ervin's going to change your world!

John, I'm thinking it'll be the 27th. Class is over the 26th and I'll be
heading up to the in-laws's in Auburn that night.

Fine with me Alan!

Rollo, look forward to meeting you. Should be a great week!

Dave, I'm not planning anything during the week except for Mike Marshall
tuesday night (I'm sure a few other students will be interested )! I
might meet up with an old friend sometime as well, but the class is
definitely my focus. I have four tops with rosettes installed and
soundholes cut out, and I just can't bring myself to bracing them until
after the class - I just know I'll want to start over if I do!

Cheers,
-Dave
