I found a new glue that doesn't seem to delaminate under some pretty good stress. The glue is Titebond Molding and Trim glue. I'm not sure what makes it different, but it holds up well to heat and moisture. I just bent a piece of ebony/maple rope with a very thin piece of ebony veneer on each side, and there was absolutely no problems at all. The piece I bent had a very tight radius as it was a piece of rosette to go around the soundhole. I bent it over a hot pipe and it didn't show any signs of delaminating or even buckling under the stress. I'm going to try it for making my next binding/purfling strips as the last ones I had from LMI delaminated in my bending machine. I'll still glue the binding the traditional way (CA for me), but when I glue the purfling to the binding to make my homemade strips, I'll try the new Titebond. John |
