As everyone knows the name originally was the Chairity Guitar. That was changed when it became a Gift Guitar and is now the OLF Guitar Project #2. I have no clue as to whether donors wish to continue to participate? Michael, we'll just have to trek through these gleaned posts to determine viability. This might just require PM'ing each person and waiting for a response. Here is the gleaned list from original posts. Body Dave Rector, abalone rosette Bob Cefalu, mahogany back and sides, bindings, headstock overlay Lance Kragenbrink, bend sides and install tailblock, sent linings Michael Propsom sent French purflings with the replaced abalone Paul Woolson, furnished back braces, his cool aspen reverse kerf two part linings, side splints, constructed back, glued in headblock, linings and radiused both the back and top. Paul installed the back and may also have furnished the neckblock with fb extension. Bruce Dickey, furnished a AAA Sitka Top from BC, Adirondack red spruce bracing, glued braces with hot hide glue, installed red abalone rosette with french purfling. Will complete top and install on rimset. Brock Poling, install purfling and binding Neck John Mayes, Slot and radius a fretboard, install side dots Jerry Hossom, furnish truss rod or cash Paul Davis, laminate neck John How, Construct and carve neck, install truss rod and fretboard. Hank Mauel, Fret the neck and dress fret ends Craig Lavin, fretboard and headstock inlay Hardware Brock Poling, furnish bridge pins and end pin Wade Sylvester, furnish fretboard markers Walter Kiralla, Schaller tuners Dennis Leahy, a duplicate offer, ebony fretboard George Armstrong, Access Stage 5 Guitar Case or Gotoh 510 gold and black tuners Don Atwood, K and K Pure Western Pickup System John Hall, donated an OLF SJ Mold, He asked that it be auctioned off and use the proceeds for expenses of the OLF #2 guitar build as we see fit. Finishing Michael Payne, French polish the guitar and install label CrazymanMichael, Final setup, nut and saddle Steve Tool, fabricate a bridge Shipping Cash Mike Tobey One donor is unnamed. Hesh Breakstone Scott Thompson Unspecified offers John Hall, Blues Creek Guitars, donated a mold of the SJ The SJ mold was purchased by Todd Rose supporting our effort to make this build and pay shipping. A couple questions? 1) Ebony bridge? I only ask because I am supplying the pins. Any preference on the type of pins? I have lots of different types of gurian wood pins and a few sets of bone. 2) I presume you don't need an end pin since it has a pick up. 3) What is the back and side wood (I can't really tell from the pics)? 4) Any preference regarding the species of binding we use? I don't see that spec'd. |

Hi Brock, those notations were abstracted out of the Charity guitar posts from months ago. End Pin, you are right, unless of course Don already gave away that K and K? Ebony pins on ebony bridge looks good. Really it's a choice thing, your choice. Binding specs, hmmmmm, Michael might direct us there because I don't have that information. I was told by someone that it would have French style purfs which are bwb with the black both larger than the white lines. I suppose the degree of difficulty on the purfling top or sides would be up to you as well. Back and side wood appears to be figured mahogany. Zootman Bob was noted as supplier on the binding, you might ask him? Great, this is exactly the type of conversation we need. |

Ok. When I see it I will figure it out. But here is what I am thinking at the moment. Binding = BRW or Cocobolo (depending on color) End graft = Chevron cut and joined to match binding Top purflings = mahog-o-lam (or possibly snake-o-lam) Side purfs = fine line bwb mitered around the end graft. How does that sound? |

Stop the presses... sounds like the fb and headstock are bound in bloodwood. So the body will do the same... |

Cool. Well if we are going with bloodwood binding, I think the original purf scheme sounds great. |

Where do these French Purflings come from? I looked at LMI and they seem to have all layers the same. Michael P., where do we get these? |
