Can anyone identify the model and approximate year of this Mandolin. It is
unlabeled but is stamped 7219H inside. It sounds great! Thanks.

At first glance it looks like a 50's A-50, but that's a first impulse guess.
All my reference books are at the shop, but I'll look it up this afternoon.
The number on the inside is the factory order number. Can you tell what
color ink it was stamped in?David Collins38783.360474537

The ink is purple/blue and above it is written in hand the number 19 in red.KenMcKay38783.3676851852

I suppose 50's might be a little late, but for some reason that finish just doesn't look like a 30's finish. I can't really say why, just a hunch. 40's perhaps? Are the tuners open or closed back, and does it look like the buttons are original or replaced?

The best way to date these is usally by the hardware. Pickguard and bracket, tailpiece, tuners, etc.

Open back tuners, and they look original.

The Mandolin Archive is
another good source for ID'ing old Gibson mandolins...

Luck!

To my eye, it's a late 40's A-50, but I'm not an expert on mandos.

I still haven't nailed it I got an email from an expert that said it was an
A1 or A50 from the 30's. The two models differ only in their bracing. I wrote
back and asked about the bracing but have not heard yet.

Thanks everyone.
