Well, it's almost ready to get those braces glued on....

Here's a blurry but closer look at the reinforcement strip, which is EIRW cut from the back itslef. Note the small section of koa/purfling from the backstrip.

You and Matt have an appointment yet? Who is going to bind this thing. Is that Brock?

Ok, here's the answers to your questions.

Bruce, it's a Robert Sorby chisel. But it never got used on those braces! I did all the shaping of the braces with small handplanes and my edge sander.

Jeff, yes I made the vacuum press myself. Most of it was all scrap material, except the hardware and the rubber sheet. If you decide to make one of these things, I have one simple reccomendation...buyt the Best vacuum pump you can afford. Try eBay....

John, No appointment yet. I'm going to end up joining the back here, and bringing everything down to Matt to join the top. I'll then take it back home and ship it out to whoever gets it next.

How is the neck coming? Who is working on that?

Author:  Dickey [ Tue Jan 04, 2005 7:32 am ]
Post subject:

The neck requires the body for critical measurements, fitting and assembly. To my knowledge all neck work is dependent on getting the body to the builder so the neck can proceed. Here is a picture of the blank:
