Gentlefolks:

Someone brought in an old Gibson J-50 into the shop. It is a beautiful guitar and needs some work. He asked if I could replace the tortoise binding since it is all cracked and coming away from the body (he left the guitar in the attic for last summer).

The question I have is do you know where I can get some .120 width binding? LMI has some that is .060 wide. If I get the .060 binding, can I double it up without seeing a seam? Is there a technique for softening it with acetone and gluing it with adhesive so that the binding remains clear when looking at it and the seam line is gone when looking down on it.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Bob

Frank Ford might be the man to answer this question? Testing the waters with a little off the end of some binding might tell you the answer too? Good luck, make it pretty again.
