Hi, I bought a scraper and barnisher from Stew-Mac, when you put the hook on the end of the scraper can you actually see it? If you can then I must be doing something wrong or I need my glasses checked. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, thanks, Red

I'm not so sure if I can see it either, my eyes are slowly slippin' away. I did have this stored away on my computer for reference. I hope it can be of some help?

The hook is miroscopic, but you can feel it. You'll know it is their because you'll get shavings instead of sawdust.

You should be able to catch your nail on the hook if you run your finger along the scraper.

VERY gentlty, if you run it along the length-if you get a great hook drawn,it's like a razor. I gently run the pad of my thumb across it,checking along the length,

I second the comment on Boggs. Actually, if anyone gets a chance to take a
class from Brian (I've taken two) I HIGHLY recommend it. The guy has
amazing knowledge of most things related to woodworking. How does this
relate to guitars? Well, I always play while sitting in the chair I made in
Brian's class!

Hi, Red
I've got the burnisher from StewMac. It works really well, but it took me a few tries to get a good hook. After you draw out the burr you have to increase the angle quite a bit to make the hook. Once I found the right angle it became easy to get a good hook.

Hey, that burnisher looks like a knife steel(you know for straighting an edge). Can you use one of those???
