Ok Ya'll, if you have made a jig to shape your bridges, any chance of a pic or two or three.

I did take a look at John Hows in the jigs section, and did something like it for the outside curve referenced from one bridge pin hole and the front edge. Well when trying it out, I split two ebony bridges from routing, the wrong way I think. worked fine on one end, but as I got to the other, BOOM and there goes the bridge.

Thinking I should make a center line jig, where I reference the two outer bridge pin holes and flip it over. I don't konw, just bummed about the two mis-haps.

yep, if you're going to use the router/shaper technique, be prepared for blow-out. John How told me at ASIA that he stopped using that nifty jig b/c of that. I borrowed one to make a bridge on it and try that technique, and my first test was an ebony, and it took a chunk out. I roughed out the blank on the band saw first, and did a clinb cut.

The rosewood turned out okay. I might have done my cocobolo one on the jig as well.

Yup, I think the climbing cut is the way to go, than flip it over and climb again.

I use that bridge jig your talking about, matter of fact, John made it for me .
What I do to prevent chip out is to cut the blank to with in 1/8th to 1/16th final size, then go to the router table, and above all, MOVE SLOW! It does work. LanceK38796.8427893519

The way that Hoffman,Ryan et al do it is to have a reversing switch on the shaper- shape one side, reverse shaper rotation(flip cutter)-shape the other side.Check out there websites and they show it.

I made a jig like John's, too. Only done three ebony bridges but didn't have any problem.

I'm with you Rod, it sure is a bummer when we try so hard and nuttin' seems to work! But i'm sure you'll overcome it all, probably just a procedure that needs being accustomed to, like Lance says, very slowly. I'd like to build me that jig too though! Good luck bud!
