What is the typical truss rod grove filler strip everyone uses. I ask because yesterday I was fooling around with a neck I had made a while back, fretboard removed, I was just cranking on the truss rod to see how much deflection I could get, but mostly all I got was compression in the filler strip which was made of spruce. The neck was maple and was profiled. should I have used a maple, or other hard wood, filler.
thanks. Mike

I have a low-end Guild electric that had a trashed fingerboard; and when I took it off I found a filler strip of beautiful, curly maple! I was glad to see that they didn't just throw away good wood scraps.

thanks for the chuckle... besides sometimes its good to cheat. Are you using the hot rod truss rods. I have little experience overall, and non with the push-pull type. But now I know there is a truss rod out there that can save you one step.Trying to grab as much knowledge as I can..
