Does anyone here have a dust vac setup with the exhaust vented to the outside of the house/shop? I have an opportunity to pick up a nice system where the large chips/particles will fall into a lower half trash can style bin, but it has no "upper bag" to filter the small particles - and I began to wonder if I vented the exhaust to the outside would I actually need an upper bag.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bill

Your car, the kid's bike, and the side of the house will all get a nice coat of sawdust. I would recommend some sort of collection bag.

Bill, check this cyclone lid at Lee Valley tools, that's what i've got and i'm satisfied with what it does, i'll only need to buy theis small air filtration unit! http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=30282&cat=1,42 401&ap=1

Remeber this, as you pull air out of the shop and dump it out the wall or window, you have to replace it. That means all your enviromental controls, heat/air conditioning/ humidification or drying will go out the window real fast. I also have a cyclone lid, with a small air purifier it works pretty good. Add to it a fein vac and I stay clean..

Just remember, you need _fine_ filtration to protect your lungs. 1 micron or better, as I understand it.
