Hey guys, I was wondering what the best way would be to remove kerfing. Got some real obvious joints. Thanks for the help. Ross |

I've chiseled out sections before and then scraped the remaining glue/fiber away. Good luck. |

Ross, what kind of glue did you use? If it was titebond, you can use heat (blow dryer..it will take a while), work a knife under it at one of the joints and then use a piece of dental floss to slide along and seperate the rest as the heat weakens the glue bond. I've done this with a neck block with no problem, don't ask why.

Thanks guys. Yes Don I did use Titebond. I will give the hair dryer shot. I knew that thing taking up space in my drawer that my wife uses would come in handy some day.

I had to do this a couple times before I got my linings installed right. I ended up giving up on reversed kerfed linings and going with regular. I found using a paint removing gun (not too expensive at Walmart) worked great. I also found that if you use stick a little screw driver into the kerf and twist as you heat, it'll help shear the glue joint. I found it much easier to do that than to pry or pull the joint apart. I posted about it here on my blog. 
On a different one, I had to chisel out and replace a section of lining after removing the back. Posted about that here. |
