HI OLF MEMBERS THIS IS MY FIRST POST & I WAS WONDERING IF ANY VETRANS OUT THERE COULD HELP ME WITH A BAND SAW JIG. MY DAD & I ARE WORKING ON OUR FIRST PROJECT TOGETHER & I NEED TO CUT SOME LUMBER (6 1/2H X 1 1/4W X 37 LONG) HEIGHT WISE. WE HAVE A 14" RIGID BAND SAW MY DAD PURCHASED FROM HOME DEPOT BUT HAVEN`T BEEN ABLE TO SET UP A RELYABLE JIG FOR THIS KIND OF CUT.. THANK FOR ANY IDEAS, MATT

Matt, I gather from your post that you are talking about resawing. Though it wasn't entirely clear.
It's really quite simple. You just need to join two boards in a 90? angle so that they are taller (or as tall) as the wood being cut. You can support them with some 45? cleats. Take the time to make this perfect. It will pay off in the long run.

There is lots either way on this but in my humble experience, and let me tell you, I re-saw A LOT, keep your blade tight. Tighter than the specs on your machine suggest but don't brake anything!

I often use the fence that comes with the saw and build an auxillary fence that fits over the original fense so that you can use that to set your cut distance from the blade and to keep it tracking properly. But place tabs on the auxillary fence so that you can also clamp it to the table when you have it set to where you want it.

One important and often overlooked set up procedure. Draw a straight line on a board paralell to and edge and cut the line freehand as steady as you can. Once you have the board going through the saw straight draw a line on the saw table using the edge of your board. That will let you know how the blade is tracking and you need to adjust your fence to that angle.

Very great tip there Shane, i can't wait to show ya ma bandsaw bud, i'm sure you got quite a few tricks up your sleeves also!

I tightened up my bandsaw and aligned the fence and proceeded to rip some purpleheart when I saw metal shavings! The tracking device had broken. I'm still waiting for parts after a month.

Don't tighten the blade too much, but do tighten it a bit. Concise, huh?

Someday that a purple guitar will emerge from that slab.

Kurt, A friend of mine almost destroyed his old bandsaw last year when resawing my purple heart, maybe that his blade was already dull or his motor not powerful enough but still, i almost broke my table saw with that wood, i think it is gonna be the last time i purchased that wood, it's too nasty for my taste!

   I use a 3/4" blade to resaw with 4 teeth per inch. You can get the blades at grizzly.com if you cant find them elsewhere
