Here is one curing in my shop ... its the mate to the double neck I made for the same client a couple years ago. Top and back are matched, wood is all from the same log. Neck will be from the same board. Sides are actually next cut over. Purfing is blk/purple/blk. Pictures jsut dont do it justice ....

Tony, beautiful guitar, and yeh, that cutaway gives it a smooth flowing shape. Did I miss it in your post, what is the wood, walnut or mohagony?? Can't wait to see it finished and strung up..

Did you steal my cut-away shape?

Steal ???? Us luthing folk NEVER steal ideas from other builders, we come up with all these things on our own in a vacuum !!!!

I am not a fan of the deep S shaped venetians look, just my thing. I like the slope look much more, and have only ever done them this way, first one was 2003 for me. Before that it was always florentines.TonyKarol38821.3567592593

Shane, where are you at exactly on that gorgeous build, is the neck carved? What's left to do on it?

Tony, that really IS nice.
Where did the wood come from (and don't say Hawaii).
I like the dark stuff, and it's extra nice to be able to match the neck to the body.

We want finished pix for sure.

And that goes for you too, Shane!

I was just ribbin' you Tony. It is amazing though that tese types of things can come about independantly. I think Al Carruth has said it a ocuple of times on here now, there really isn't much new... . I agree I like this 'serpentine' shape better also, I think, maybe, we'll see. I will have a better feeling for it once this puppy is done.

Serge, The box is at this stage, the neck has been glued up for about 2 and half years now, Agghhh! But I split it a couple of months ago (well two of them) and added another dark wood lamination. I am installing a central vacuum for part of today and tomorrow and I also hope to build a fret slotting jig that I have been promising and I have also rattled around a compound radius jig in my head that I want to draw out and make. I was going to try and do one along the lines of Craigs jig but I agree that I should respect his intellectual property so I will try something similiar but a bit different. If it works I will post it!

Great work Tony, didn't mean to hijack........Hey!! Are you right in Toronto? I am off to Ottawa in a couple of weeks and will meet up with Serge and Alain and Michael Greenfield, But I think you are probably too far away..Right?

Shane,

Yet another example of Morphic Resonance!

By the way, I hope "serpentine" doesn't refer in any way to snake oil. Now snake oil - I bet that would make a great acoustic guitar finish . . .

Great guitar by the way Shane, looking forward to seeing it complete.

Plus one great guitar of your's Tony!

Dave,

It was a sublime thought insertion. We have florentine and venetian cut-aways....why not a serpentine one too . Or I guess we can just call it a flat modified venetian, or a just a venetian.....I am hoping to get this thing completed soon. My binding jig is in production and freinds shop. He is fitting some bearings with some nylon collors for a jig like the Guitar Jigs one only with bearings instead of rods.

Shane, you're almost there bud, keep it up, lookin' fine!

i'm interested in your binding router jig with bearings, i'm attempting one myself based on a model that Michael Payne showed here,i'll show it to you when you come down in may, would you have any pics of yours?

If you do, maybe you could post them on a new thread when you have a chance?

Thanks

Serge
