I'm gathering the supplies I need to start finishing my uke. I've read up on finishing and plan on spraying KTM-9 over a two day period with multiple coats each day one hour apart. This will be my first time I've sprayed an instrument and I'm wondering if I should do anything in between coats to keep the gun from clogging? Or is cleaning the gun after each day enough? |

The pro finishers might have a different opinion but in my experience with KTM-9, you can leve it alone between coats. The most I had to do was pick a bugger off the end of the tip and then I was back in business. I'd go so far as to say that you could even leave it between sessions but it can't hurt to clean it. I would definately not leave it uncleaned if there is no paint in the cup. Too much air will dry things out and you'll have a mess. Remember: very light coats with KTM-9 |

Roy, one thing I learned (I think it came from BobC) with KTM-9, after you are done spraying a coat. Close the flow nozzle down while spraying and it clears the finish out of the nozzle, then open it back up when you spray the next coat. I have had good success with that. If your going to go a couple days without spraying, I would definately clean it as KTM-9 will make a mess of your gun and it's hard to clean after it dries. A gun with a plastic cup is good with KTM-9. Don't forget pics of that Uke when you can. I still haven't gotten started on mine yet, some day. |

I clean once a day but not between sessions rather at the end of that days spraying. I do flush the nozzel as John stated by closing the media flow pin and clear the nozzel with just air flow between sessions. this does mean I have to test my flow at the start of each session but that takes just a few seconds. |

Thanks for the tips. I'll post pictures when I've got the uke completed but since work keeps getting in the way that probably won't be until next month. |
