........and if I were driving I'd take a few others with me, but reality sets in. First of all, though, I'd like to introduce myself and to say 'thank you' for all the nice comments, made on this forum, about my music and playing! That 'Usage Statistics Page' of mine really does work:-) Okay..........I do realize that this is a luthier's forum, but I'm about to post my tour schedule here. Please don't hesitate to scold me if I'm out of line, okay? Part of my tour does involve a performance at Mike Doolin's home, so at least THAT is pertinent, right:-) Thank you for your indulgence. Regards, Howard http://www.howardemerson.com/ Herewith..........The Schedule Howard Emerson West Coast Tour Schedule Saturday April 29 in Lynnwood, WA (Seattle area) Howard will be doing an all-day event at Kennelly Keys / Roy’s Place Recital Hall located at 4918 196th St SW, Lynnwood, WA 98036. He’ll be doing private lessons, a clinic and a performance. There are/were 5 lesson slots ($40/hour), a ‘Dropped D’ clinic from 4:30-6:00PM ($30, limited to 10 students) and finally a performance at 7:30PM. Tickets for the performance are $12.00 in advance or $15.00 the day of the show. Important note: Please contact Ray Boyce at 425-775-9751, or raymond.boyce3@verizon.net regarding lesson time slots and clinic availability!!!! Sunday May 7 in Portland, OR. I’ll be doing a house concert at 3:00PM in the home of Mike Doolin of Doolin Guitars! Hi Serge, I'm very flattered.......but I have to say you obviously have very discerning taste....Thank you! Perhaps I'll do something in Canada at some point. I do have a few fans there, and one of them in particular, Bob Evans, plays my stuff on his radio program, '6 Strings and A Million Possibilities'. He's up in Regina, Saskatchewan. Bob Evans, for those who don't know about him, was the 1st Place winner of the 2003 Winfield Fingerpicking Competition! I'm very honored to have my first CD, 'Crossing Crystal Lake', listed as Bob's overall favorite fingerstyle CD! Hi Lance, Hi John, Hi Serge, Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! John, I guess you're also a member of UMGF as well if you saw me perform at the park in Nazareth, yes? I should mention a little bit about the guitar I'm touring with. David Flammang built this for me almost a year ago to a list of specs I sent him. Basically it's an L-00 shape made shallower than a Martin 00-18, done in curly maple and red spruce, standard scale (what you guys call 'short scale', large frets, non-scalloped bracing, rosewood board and bridge, 1 & 13/16" nut, 2 & 3/8" bridge spacing, and a neck shaped, via template and specs I sent, from my 1927 Gibson L-5. He pretty much gave me everything I asked for and I've been very pleased with the results. I can play almost any of my compositions on it and be, generally speaking, quite satisfied with what I hear, including my bottleneck stuff. It has more punch than sustain, which is what I asked for. Upon first trying some of his instruments at a concert held for his benefit (after a shop fire back in CT), I immediately liked what I heard and felt. I knew right away that here was a guy who kept an eye on tradition while still maintaining his own sense of style and 'aural' sensibilities. I was actually given one of his guitars by a good friend of mine, and although I would never have ordered this particular instrument (an EL Majestic in mahogany and spruce) with a black finish and low profile neck, the guitar records wonderfully and I used it quite a bit on my newer CD, A Tale To Tell. Very frankly, one of my 'strong suits' is that I like different sounding guitars, and I'll do whatever it takes to find out what any guitar 'has to say for itself', and vary my technique towards that end. Anyways I'm prattling now, so I'll stop.......... At some point I'll tell you a bit about my long term friendship with a guy who you probably are familiar with. I taught him Dobro, back around 1972, in trade for making a new neck for a Guild F-50R I use to own. His name is John Monteleone. Best regards, Howard |

I am totally ignorant of Flammang or Howard, sorry. Tell us about the guitar and the maker. TIA. Note about uploads: Resize your pics to under 150KB to load, but they load faster if around 35KB. Some of us are still in the dark ages of dialup. Also, some of us still use planes and chisels......

Hi Roy, Glad to hear you like what you're hearing:-) I guess you must have a pretty good supply of Koa where you are? That has alway been a favorite wood of mine when done well, especially as a top wood. I find it sounding basically like mahogany topped instruments with something a little more interesting to look at! Thanks again! Howard |
