I had back surgery a couple of years ago and it looks like I'm going to have to do surgery on a guitar back. I gave one of the last guitars I made to a friend of mine. She has been using a baggie with a sponge in it as a humidifier. Well, she got too much water in the sponge and the baggie had a hole in it. The back is now pretty severely buckled in the lower bout close to the end graft. It's straightening up some but I don't know if it will ever get to the point that it looks right. Is there any way to save this or should I just go ahead and put a new back on? |

Jimmie, man, she deserves a dope slap, not a new back!  Seriously, sometimes we've just got to live with our mistakes. If the glue lines are sound, I'd say leave it. If you want to do something, buy her a real, professionally made, humidifier.
BTW, I hope your own back surgery had the desired result. |
