Russell, what can I say, you know what I think of your guitars, wood combinations and overall finish is up to your usual stella standard. That, my friend (And all you others out there)is what a guitar SHOULD look like. Oh, and your photography is getting better too!

Right tomorrow I go out and rip some bindings off of my London Plane side sets to go on my Mad Rose guitar. Hope I've got enough to do the purfling as well. Inspiring.

It is a Shellac and Danish Oil finish not everyones cup of tea, but nice if you really want to see the wood.

I know it as London Plane or Lacewood over here, but I think it is the same wood that you call Sycamore in the US. If you can't find any wade let me know and I can send you some as I did a run of 5 guitars in it so have plenty of pieces around to make bindings from.

The scalloping came about originally because a customer who has bought a few guitars from me wanted it as he somehow anchors his hand on the saddle when he is playing what he calls "Lute Style Patterns" (He is a much better player than me so I am not sure what this involves?) and I just kind of like the look, and the customer for this one said he wanted Euro, Ebony, Mahogany and EIR and he would leave the rest to me, so I did it on this one just to look a bit different.

The purflings where bits I had cut off when profiling the sides on other guitars, I glued them up with waterproof PVA and then cut them into purflings on the bandsaw. You do see a Parabolic (Sorry Howard) X Brace on the back, I've don it on the last 3 and I seem to get a nicer dome and to my ears it aids the projection.

I have quite weened myself off the scallops on the top bracing, but I not scalloping anywhere near as deep these days.

In terms of sound nice balance rumbling base and bright trebles. I will see if the customer will do a file as it left this morning.

Looks great - I love to see that kind of fleck in well quartered wood - on the sycamore binding. Nicely done.

Russell, that's a beauty! Any chance of a straight on shot of your bridge? Looks like a really nice design.

That London Plane sure looks like the quartersawn sycamore we have over here. Here is a shot of one I am just finishing up, Black Acacia/Englemann, with the sycamore bindings.

Thanks Rod! It'll be a couple of weks before it is finished. I just sprayed the neck this morning and need to give the nitro a little time to cure before sanding and buffing.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about Russell! That looks very elegant to me. I like the taper from bass side to trebel. Looks like it would reduce some of the mass we all worry about too.

Shellac / Danish oil, huh? Do you seal first w/ straight shellac? And the top looks "glossier" than the sides / back. Is that an optical delusion?
