I was purusing the Zootman's website today and ran across this stunning Claro Walnut...holy cow! You gotta wonder how he finds all this amazing zoot...!

I went out for a drive with Bob once. We were going down the highway about 70mph when he all of a sudden slammed on the brakes and turned down a dusty country road. About three miles down the road there was an old barn. You guessed it, it was chock full of nicely aged zoot. I aske Bob how he found it and he said "I can smell that stuff from three miles away."

Oh wait, I guess I just dreamed that....

Michael I felt the same way when I put that first bookmatched set together for the pictures. Seriously thinking of stashing one away for myself.

The joke's on all of you! He has an airbrush and just paints all that stuff
on. Underneath, it's just poplar he gets from old pallets! (How come I still
lust after it though?)

History lesson:

A Zoot Suit was once a style of men's suit back many moons ago. It was considered a "fancy" suit in those days, very appealing and trendy.

Fast forward:

The term got coined here on the Luthier's Forum for wood that is very fancy and appealing to the eye. In context, it was some very fancy wood that Bob Cefalu, aka R.C. Tonewoods was selling. The term stuck, and he was affectionately nicknamed "The Zootman" for all the fancy high-figured woods he was finding and selling.

Wood that isn't fancy or highly figured isn't Zoot, it's just wood. Got it?

There will be a quiz in class tomorrow.
