One of these States/Places is probably Ideal. I am interested in everyone's honest opinion on which is his/hers preferred place. I realize there are other States/places...not enough room for the pole... so please put the place, town, city, state, whatever in your post. Please don't forget to respond after you vote. I am thinking about writing an article and would really appreciate your input. TIA !Dave-SKG38359.7666782407

Nashville, TN seems like a great place to build to me....

Strangely enough, I hear there aren't many builders in that area!

Hey ! Why isn't Rhode Island on that list?????Don W38359.8325

I ain't moving. I had to pick Texas, but I was really voting for Arkansas. Truth is, any place you find yourself is the perfect place to build guitars. You do what you have to to make it hospitable for the wood and yourself, ask Mario.

California is the place to be!!
Lots of sun and nice warm weather......It's raining right now though. Humidity in the shop is 45% and the dehumidifier/humidifier are not even on. Just a heater. I think of it as my "Southern France".John How38360.0766898148

I personally think your all in the wrong country but if I was a yank I'd be in Cali.. the place is a hotbed for luthiers, there must be a reason.. Oregon would also be a top pick =) Charles Fox is up there.. I bet I could trade wood for wisdom =)

There is a huge number of luthiers in New England. Yet, none of the states listed are New England states. New England is great for networking with other luthiers. However, the humidity oscollates between 0 and infinity here. Sometimes in a single day.

Though I'm not there anymore, Arizona is a great place to build climate-wise. It's a WHOLE lot easier to ad moisture to the air than it is to take it out. I ran a swamp cooler (big squiral cage fan blowing across moist filters) and that's all it took to keep the shop at a pleasant 45%. Granted, it's not the meca of building. If the friendship factor were put into it, that being many luthiers in the area, I'd have to say nothern Cali or Oregon would be good too.
But I'm not leaving the northland any time soon. It's always cold and I'm always fighting humidity issues but it's home and I love it here. Paul
