Hi, has anyone ever used myrtlewood for a guitar top?
I was voicing a high figure myrtlewood back today and noticed a really beatifull ring to it!! Not like the usual tap tone you'd get from a mahogany, rosewood or any other hardwood I tryed before....it was more like a cross between spruce and a koa top. A lot of life and tone! I'm thinking about trying to make one with a myrtle top!

Any input?

PS...I'll post some pics later

I just finished a myrtle guitar (sitka top) and I know that ring you speak of. I'd say go for it. You'll probably want to go a bit thinner than a standard spruce top. More along the lines of a mahogany top (.090). Let us know how it turns out.

I would suspect it mechanical properties would be on the order close to Koa maybe a bit softer. So I would agree with Paul somewhere between .95-.85

i believe you need to store them at photoubcket or some other free image hosting service before you can post them - it took me the longest time to figure that out.
Cheers

You can upload them from your computer, no problem at all without a hosting website as long as the true size is under 150k. Looks like you may have deleted part of the code after the file was downloaded!

I tried it both ways (link and upload) and the entire
code was there when I hit the 'send' button. It just
doesn't come up, even on the preview. Both the pics
I tried were way under the limit.

Hmm, still not working. Here's a link at least:

Thanks Peter!
I apologise for butchering up this thread, I was trying
to post it as a joke since yes, it's a tricone and not an
acoustic. It IS Myrtle though.

Wow, that is a stunning guitar, even with all those funky holes in it!
