My name is Carles Hicks. I am 27 years old and live in Dowling Michigan. I have played mandolin and guitar most of my life and now I am in the process of building two f-5 mandolins. Is there any members of this forum that have dabled in carved top mandolins that could offer a new guy some advise. thank you |

Hi there Carles! Welcome to the MGL and OLF, feel free to post your question on the main forum, there are LOTS more folks over there. The MGL is used mainly for communicating our plans for local get togethers. Lance ![]() |

Welcome, Carles! It seems like there's almost always good advice to be had on the main forum for beginners in building any fretted instrument. Dive in, and good luck! |

Hi Charles! I dabble some with mandolins too, but we have some others on the main forum who know a whole lot more than me. What are your questions specifically? |

There is one member, Dan Sharp, who is just now starting on an F5 mandolin. The main Forum is great folks but don't forget, this MGL Forum can help you find someone right in your own area who may be working on the same thing you are! |

I was just wondering who was in the area that also builds. I have hundreds of questions but alot of them will answer themself as i build more. To be honest I just like to see and hear how other luthiers do things. I have one question. Is there a place to buy red spruce in Michigan? I found quite a few places on the web but I would like to feel and hear the wood before I buy it. |
