Just wanted to let everyone know how pleased I am with the content in John's voicing DVD (though I haven't watched the bloopers yet!). Lots of mysteries cleared up for me. Now that I've seen it, I have one less excuse not to make great guitars!

Pat,
I too cannot give enough praise for this DVD. It really was an eye/ear opener for me. I think this DVD is a must for anyone who has not built enough guitars to know what stiffness and tap tone should sound like when they are voicing there tops. I really like the menu, and the design of this DVD. Very creative from a very creative guy!

Luthier Suppliers is mentioned in the DVD, but really this is not why I'm posting, it really is a GREAT DVD! In fact, I'd say that if you could only buy one of John's DVD's, this is the one to get.

I see no reason why someone could not start with the advanced voicing
DVD, although some of my techniques, I reference to the first voicing
DVD so there leaves some blank spots.

Not trying to make John's head big, but the advanced voicing DVD is the only one I don't have...and I HONESTLY believe those DVDs cut time and headache off my first build. In fact, I used them like a library and went back to reference them periodically. Great stuff, no doubt.

Now John, about that fitting/gluing the top and back to the sides thing.    (You know, you could do that small portion as a "teaser" and put it on your website so people could download it to see what kind of content is in the series. (Just kidding, I'll wait for the DVD).

I too must vouch. I've watched his first set seriously for hours trying to
learn. I went from knowing nothing to almost nothing. That's a big jump
for me. I can imagine how good the advanced voicing is. Good on ya John.

me too!!

johns DVDs are a refreshing change from the usual corporate
luthier titles, they have a friendlier feel.the different methods of construction shown are great also,and offer a more streamlined approach to building for the modern shop.

I bought the first voicing DVD. I sure learned a lot from it.In fact I watched it again tonight. They are great videos for the beginner or more skilled luthiers.Hey John, Love those bloopers man!

I have to say the same thing as everyone else - these DVD's are great. I have all of them and have watched the advanced voicing at least 4 times now. Good stuff-

I really want to get the advanced voicing dvd when/if I work on another
acoustic. John really did something great in developing these. I know
they can add up, but when a discussion came up last week about
recommended books, I should've said to look at the dvd's. To be able to
watch, listen, and get different methods for different goals seems so
much more valuable than reading about it and trying to imagine what an
author might mean by tapping until you hear this or that tone. I don't
actually have any of the dvd's, but I've always known John as someone
who fully dives in and really does something right.

hey John i think what everyones trying to say is" YOU ROCK DUDE " & your voicing dvds as well as all the other helpful dvds truely are quite gnarly.theres just one question i have been wondering after veiwing your advanced voiceing dvd.............are you really sniffing the hide glue bottle or is that some kinda special effects your one wild & crazy guy , thats one of the many reasons why your dvds are #1 in my book. thanks Matt Ennis

Well guys thank you very much. I REALLY do appreciate very much all the
very kind words. I really feel as though I do not even come close to
deserving them, but I am thrilled you all think enough of the videos to
offer the kind gesture.

the videos are different than anything out there for sure. They can be
dorky and fun, yet I still try to convey the subject at hand. I'm, by no
means, some kind of expert on the things, but I have built over 100
guitars on my own now, and I figure I can share a hint or two.

And yes I was sniffing the hide glue....and man it reeks. I sniff it everyday
just to see if smells any better....it actually has gotten to be more
manageable actually! I love working with hide glue now.

Anyway thanks again guys, and if you all have more suggestions for
videos then let me know. I think I'd like to do one on cutaways sometime
soon, but I'm crazy busy right now with everything...
