Actually the 2 are sometimes intertwined. It is also known as iron wood.

Morado, Pau Ferro, Bolivian rosewood all common names for the same wood. Never heard the ironwood reference in the USA..maybe in some parts of South America, but every village has an "ironwood" simply meaning the heaviest wood in town .

Rich, if you have never worked with Pauferro, take safety measures until your sure you dont have an adverse reaction to it, its one of (those) types of woods.LanceK38850.9492592593

Rich, obviously the top piece is Pau Ferro, while the bottom piece is Morado.

That's what they tell me but I can't bring myself to test the theory on my nice sets of Pau Ferro

I haven't built with Pau Ferro, but the tap reminds me of rosewood. It's weird stuff; glassy, super-smooth (practically no visible pores).
(I would have to move my air compressor and bending machine out of my tub first....)
Hesh, I really don't want to pry...., but this is sounding too weird. If, compressor and bender, are in the tub, how do you bathe? Is there a hose in the back yard?

I'm sorry but after seeing your last guitar posting, there's this big disconnect between, what I'm seeing, and what I'm hearing. Your work is not looking like "La Guittara de Bano"

Sorry Bud

Sure looks like Pau Ferro (aka morado or Bolivian rosewood) to me. I've built one guitar out of it. Great tap tone. Bends as nice as walnut, but doesn't scorch as easily (er, or at least as easily as the claro variety). The sapwood tends to be a little splintery, I found.

Oh, and about halfway through the build, I began to develop a rash on my forearms and wrists. Yup, one of them woods.

Best,

Michael

Doesn't sink in water either. SG .83 or so which is less than water. Bobc38851.4819675926
