There's no better feeling than the first stringing up and playing of a new instrument. I'm glad you are liking what you are hearing so far and am looking forward to some sound samples.

Great that the mids and trebles are there in spades. If bass doesn't come fully you can get more with a little fine tuning of the braces but it's very hard to get the trebles back if they are not there. On the first parabolic guitar I did I didn't like the sound for the first 2 weeks and then all of a sudden it blossomed.

Also you ear can play tricks depending on the sorts of guitars you are used to. If you are used to bass heavy guitars then it could be that a more balanced guitar sounds bass light when the bass is just as strong.

The sustain and responsiveness to figerstyle doesn't surprise me at all.

Hesh, looking forward to hearing it also, once you've fingerstyle played a "parabolic" braced guitar there is no going back. I've built more than a dozen now with that type of bracing, some with hybrid bracing, and for the fingerstyler the responsiveness and attack that are there are just amazing, if the builder does his bit (and as the world's premier bathroom buider I'm know you have). It will open out over the next month or so. Try it in one of the altered tunings DADGad or Open G and you'll be captivated. I'm particularly taken with the bridge and will probably have to copy it, I've no shame!

I think we should have a rule here that you're not allowed to post pictures without a sound clip, we are building musical instruments after all.

Right now build a Mahogany/Euro "parabolic" and really hear what a guitar should sound like.

Hesh, she's stunning my friend. You've hit that one out of the park... I absolutely love your bridge... That Koa should be a bit more 'flamed', no?     I was really looking forward to seeing that gorgeous wood under finish, and it even exceeded my expectations! Superb in every respect. That there gitter is 'Killer Mint'!

I can only hope to be able to try it in person one day. I guess I'm going to have to take a trip to Ann Arbor...

That was my next question to you Colin, is it prefered by fingertylists ? My thinking being that if a guitar sounds great just playing with your fingers, imagine when strummed with a pick, one would need bo boats from John Mayes!

Hesh, how far are you from BobC's summer place in Fort Erie ?

Hesh, the ideal would be to build two mahogany guitars, identical except a Euro top on one and a WRC or Redwood top on the other. Both with "Parabolic" bracing of course. The Mahogany/Euro will have a bright tone with great presence across the entire range, ideal for travis, blues and modern styles of play. This is the guitar most people head for the studio with. Change to the WRC or redwood and it becomes a little warmer with a rich sound. An ideal guitar for altered tuning work, also great for an earthy blues sound.

As to where you get good Euro on your side of the pond I have no idea, sorry. I get mine off my shelf, I've got quite a few sets. Russell is just getting us some more in from Luigi, I work on the basis that you can't have too much. Perhaps some of Bob's Carpathian, after all that's just a type of Euro. I have got some of Hank's Redwood (again via Russell) and it is stunning stuff. The best WRC I have ever seen again I bought in Europe from Madinter, I guess you have a lot of suppliers your side.

A warning though, once you've built with mahogany, you may build with other woods, for their looks, afterwards, but when you want to play you'll pick up the old mahogany.

I cant see how that guitar will not open up and be rich and beautiful sounding + in a bit of time - I imagine these guitars like newborn babies in that they come out a mess and screaming, but end up little bundles of joy in a short period. Good job hesh!
