Hi folks, been at it a bit lately, i worked a little on my bandsaw, i added a base with casters and a decent fence that i had purchased at Busy Bee (NO, NOT lEE VALLEY ), the base will allow more space in the shop and the fence, well, it speaks by itself huh?

Tonight, i also thinned the back of no 2 though final sanding will be done with a finishing sander. I also cut the outline of the back with the bandsaw after tracing the template on it and leaving a 1/2" space to work with, just a safe precaution.

Finally, i precut the back braces and laid them without glue on the back

Here is the base with casters

And here's the fence

The drum sander doin' it's job!

template tracing

Da beast again!

Bandsaw moves!

Et voila mes amis!

I should be carving them braces sometimes this week after the glue up, i hope to be able to close the box during the coming week end!

Thanks for lookin'!

Well Done Serge

Looking Good, do the castors on the bandsaw lock somehow ? Just had vision of you chasing the saw up and down the shop

Thats a good idea as that way if you need to cut a long board you can just move your saw a bit to give more clearance

Or even scarier....the bandsaw rolling down the driveway and into the
street!!

Thanks a lot guys, yeah, it feels great when you lead Murphy by 3 or 4 points eh? And then your pals come and cheer you up! WOW! lIFE IS JUST GREAT!

Martin, yeah, i still have my 9. 9 fingers, one nail got sanded off by the drum sander last week but it's on the road to recovery!

Thanks Peter, i'm getting anxious to see it closed up too bud

Muchos gracias Senor Billy, the Beer drinkin' dude had to go take a shower, i'm thinkin' avatar material with him! Even tho i'm on soda most of the time!

Thanks Russ, yeah, free movement and clearance for long cuts was the main factor for buying this and it works beautifully, i forgot to mention that it has 2 strait wheels and 2 casters only, it locks to the floor where you want it by lifting 2 handles and bringing down 2 rubber feet. Like you and Martin said,I wouldn't want to be chasing that beast down the hallways here, it would be hard to know which dentures goes in which grannies mouth after a scary chase episode!

Thanks Hesh, it sure does, sometimes i wish i had no neighbor to my shop so i could use the power tools for longer periods during the week nights tho but i still consider myself lucky, the lady living next door never complains. For the music in the shop,i only have an old am/fm radio right now but i'm gathering great acoustic guitar music from our great forum and will make myself a bunch of CDs of it soon and play them while building!

Serge: I am most impressed, that's very nice work. I'd like to try building a drum sander sometime, I'm a bit inspired by yours.

Way to go Serge!
You know, Russ might be on to something. For real long boards, you can just hold the board stationary, and move the saw as you cut.

You are on your way! Before you close her up, more pictures. I like to see how others do their braces. Don't forget to make your bridge glueing caul. Clinton
