Well my wife Roseanne and I arrived at the cottage at about 8:30 yesterday morning armed with an arsenal of cleaning supplies to start the annual spring cleanup. Upon unlocking the door I was shocked by debris all over the place. Looked like it was ransacked. Ceiling tile hanging down, oven door open and paper along with other debris scattered all over the place. Upon further inspection it appeared that a racoon or two entered from the second floor window and made it's way thru some missing drywall above the suspened ceiling tile and into the living area. We didn't know if they were still inside hiding somewhere. When my son Bob arrived we called the local police dept who dipatched a very nice officer to check it out. He agreed on the Racoon theory and checked out the whole place. He suggested calling our insurance agent. Needless to say we couldn't stay over nite. A local man set a trap and we are awaiting the insurance company to arrive on Monday. We spent the day cleaning outside, cutting grass and cleaning up the garage which is actually a big kitchen-dining area to accomadate lot's of people. I'll post how we make out. ![]() |

Sorry to hear about the ransacking of your cottage. Animals can make a mess, especially raccoons. I hope it doesn't spoil too much of your weekend. Al |

For cute fuzzy criters they sure can do a lot of harm! Hopefully the insurance company will give you a bigger fatter check for the damage than what you actually need. ![]() |

You know the biggest mess is the smell of urine and feces all over. They were up on the beds too. The trap guy said not to touch anything because it all needs to be disenfected. Were hoping the insurance company pays for professional cleaning people to come in and do it. I'll know more tomorrow. Rats!!! ummm Racoons!!!!!! |

Bob, Happened to my parents a few years ago, got in the house, and WENT THRU THE REFRIGERATOR! Also all the cupboards...anywhere there was food. Insurance really came thru though, so you're most likely in luck there. Try and have a great "rest of the holiday weekend"! |

Well, I think you need to convince the insurance compnay to rebuild the entire place, with upward of 20 beds and baths for visiting friends. Can they have it done by the middle of July? ![]() Chin up my friend...it all will work out. ...unless of course you had all your zoot stashed there...say it ain't so Bob! |
Those damned rodents with opposable thumbs {practically} They can really tear crap up! Sorry to hear that Bob! Cheers Charliewood
Thanks Charliewood Hesh that's quite story. Years ago I used to go bow hunting with a few friends. One year we had a younger new guy with us. Well he took aim at a racoon with his bow. An older and much wiser hunter that was with us told him "Ron if your gonna shoot that coon ya better make sure you kill it. Cause if you don't you'll be runnin' for you life" Ron never let that arrow go. ![]() ![]() |

Dave, you're a riot...of course you've met Mrs. Zoot and know she keeps a tight reign on Mr. Z. He may be retired but he's still considered a stud by the ladies. ![]() |

Wow. Good luck, Bob. Sounds like a good reason to never leave a gun in your cabin when you're gone for the season! ![]() |

Bob, That's awful news! Hopefully, your insurance is good, and you can get a professional cleaning crew (and repairman) in there to fix it all. You might even think of hiring some of the folks that clean up after fires, as they are expert at eliminating odors. Hope your next trip up there is much more pleasant! Dennis |
