We didn't plan anything special this holiday weekend, so I got some SHOP TIME!!! Not a lot, but enough to get the sides profiled, linings on, first ever rosette (the banjos I built didn't have 'em) routed and inlaid with laminates and teflon, but still waiting for abalone.

Momentum on this project was so fragmented, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it going again, but now I'm stoked.

Hope everybody had a great weekend!!burbank38867.0585532407

Sounds like you've got things in motion. Isn't it such a great feeling when you can really get things moving? Hope it keeps going for you!

Yay shop time! I'm hoping to get some too...we just finished all the high school grad stuff for my eldest, and as soon as the airline lets me go home, I'm straight to the shop!

I got some shop time in this past weekend too. But it was more of the variety of taking pictures of wood to build a website to sell the stuff. Man, that's a lot of work.

OK, pics are coming, but I have this job I have to go to all the time and it really disrupts my building

OK, here's some pics.

The guitar is a steel string, Terz size 5 in koa from Doug Kleist at Blue Spirit. The blocks and linings look huge since the lower bout is only 11-1/4".

I took one step forward and one back on the rosette, it being my first. I didn't get a couple inches of one ring seated at all, so when I levelled it, I ran out of inlay. I dug out the channel by hand and spliced in the missing inlay last night. We shall see.

I do love the shape of those little guitars. Keep the pictures coming as you go.

Hang in there Pat, i know the feeling too, i have to remove half of the rope purfling on my guitar's back because i have scraped too hard, let's show them babies who's the boss!

Well, I spliced in the new rosette ring, got the ab in. Looks OK to me for the kids' guitar. The joint on the left will be hidden by the just-now-revised pickguard location (funny how those spontaneous revisions just pop up), and the one on the right will be under the strings. Whew! Squeaked by that time, I think.

This stuff is so much fun sometimes, I could just bust.

Pat,

Excellent save on the rosette. I tried that once and ruined the whole guitar. You know, ruin the top, try to take the top off and crack the side, etc. etc. So you did really well.

I too love those small guitars, where did you get the plans?

Jeff

Hey, Thanks guys.

Jeff, I did that too, long ago.

I got the plans for this one on ebay from pilgrimsprojects.

Hesh, John Mayes is building or perhaps has finished a guitar that looks like it's shaped like the #5, but bigger IIRC. He posted a pic of just the body here not long ago. Looked sweet. Maybe it was a #1 or 2.

How goes the boring one? Post pics when it's done. Maybe B&W !
