Hey guys (and gals for that matter)! My name is Jordan, and I am a newbie in all senses of the word. I've been on this site several times to read up on a lot of things, but wanted to say "hello" and thank you in advance for your help (as I know I'll need it). Anyways....I guess if I'm facing the facts I haven't completed a guitar yet. I've been working on one for a while, but haven't had the time to complete it yet. Right now I'm trying to acquire the "appropriate" tools, and have been busy making a lot of the jigs I'll use in the future. John Mayes has been a big inspiration to me....long before I even knew about OLF. His videos have really opened my eyes to some of the more modern ways of guitarmaking. I'd say I'm fairly well read....been through Cumpiano & Natelson's book several times, but fall extremely short on the experience end. I guess learning is the fun part, right? Jordan, Welcome aboard. Guitar building is addicting! This is the place to learn how to build great guitars, and have a lot of fun. There are several TX builders here on at the OLF, so maybe you can visit them and get some 1st hand instruction, and check out some world class guitars. Jeff |

Thanks so much for responding guys! The guitar I am building right now is an LMI EI Rosewood Dreadnought that is serviced. One other thing I forgot to mention----I'm a lefty! That being said I have already made a Martin-style bridge and altered the bracing pattern. |

Salutations Jordan. You're exactly right, learning is the fun part! As I was reading your post, it invoked some very recent memories for me. Emphasis on the 'very'. You'll see that TAS (tool acquisition syndrom) is very real. Followed by WAS (wood acquisition syndrom) and also, upgrade-itus. This last being closely related to TAS... I would say that you can still be saved, but if you're reading this, it's probably already too late. |

Alain, Thanks for the greetings! Sadly, TAS (and the like) has run in my family for many years, and we haven't seen any signs of recovery thus far.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the warm greeting! I really appreciate and respect everyone here...I've got a lot to learn from each of you. The avatar is of the movie "Office Space"...the guy gets revenge on a fax/copy machine from his office. Pretty funny really. Of course, that could be me after I finish my first build...we'll have to wait and see how it turns out

Hi Steve. I'm from Northwest Houston--Jersey Village area. No I haven't met either Michael or Joshue yet. I've only been on here a couple of times so far. I will definitely look them up though. Jordan--one added perk of visiting Joshua is Clark's Hardwood Lumberyard...which is 1 block from Joshua's home. Arrange enough time to spend at least half a day at Clark's; but be advised--you can go totally mad with wood lust going through their several warehouses. We need to get the Houston area luthiers together at some point. Steve |

What Steve said, regarding Clarke's. Definitely a source of problems for us with WAS. On the positive side, however, I've saved a lot of money by buying wood at Clarke's. Another good place, but with not as big of a selection as Clarke's is Houston Hardwoods on 34th St. Jordan -- you're not far from me. I'm in the Spring Branch area, just off Wirt and Long Point.
