Nice wood. But how many sets does one get for $1950 - about 15? |

It's like real estate, some vulture hangs it out there for far too much because they don't NEED to sell but figure sooner or later some fool with more dollars than cents will happen along and then bingo! the new bench mark for the street is set. Now everyone in the area will expect to get the same price for their property, and usually do, from that day on. I would never ever consider paying that much for any wood just as a matter of principal. Further, I consider that anyone who does pay that much for one back and side set should be ashamed of themselves for their part in supporting this nonsense and helping to escalate the pressure upon an already diminished resource. There is a huge selection of great woods so readily available for all builders that will allow them to participate in this craft at any level, no need to be getting involved in this merry-go round. IMHO, if your fool enough to pay the ransom you deserve what you get and you had best prepare yourself to keep paying it forever. Cheers ![]() Kim |

I passed on a nice BRW set on ebay today, first time I'd seen any available in this country. I could afford the money at the moment, but I guess I agree with Kim, I couldn't justify paying that much for a back and side set when there are other great and more affordable woods available. It sure was pretty tho, a lot like Lars used on the guitar he posted pics of the other day. |

That brazilian is overpriced, but "the tree" wood is even more so. If you have to tell people it's a really rare and desirable specimen because it doesn't look like it, you have a problem. I bought two sets recently for under $400 that are laughably better than "the best tree ever found" sets there. But they keep selling what they put up (or most of it, anyway), so they're doing something right. Andrew |
