In regards to our avatars, I am going to ask that everyone select a static jpg or bmp image instead of an animated gif.
Although I like the animated gifs, and they are fun, they are beginning to make it difficult to
read the OLF and that would simply be defeating the point of our existence.
All the movement is much to distracting, and if we let it continue it will only become worse.

So, please select a new avatar and keep in mind that the content of your image
MUST be appropriate for all ages.
There are several up now that are very offensive, and have no place on this board.

I will begin to remove any animated avatars starting next week if they have not been updated.

----

Also, we have added a NEW forum for OFF TOPIC conversations. Please post ALL NON LUTHERIE related topics there.

The SAME rules apply, NO DISCUSSION OF POLITICS OR RELIGION, NO USE OF PROFANITY AND ABOVE ALL, Be NICE to each other, Enjoy and have fun!

Thanks!
Lance & Brock

Thanks Lance. My 7 yr old was sitting here with me, and he was watching as I scrolled down. A very inappropriate avatar cycled. He was 8" away. He just said "whaaaat?" Ticked me off pretty good.

Thanks for setting the compass around here, you'll never know how grateful I am for keeping out the garbage. Keep doing what's right.

I recommend you yank the one immediately though.......

If the offending avatar is the one of the guy that appears to be hitting someone repeatedly... That's actually from the movie Office Space, and the guy is beating up the office copy machine. In my circle of friends, that would be instantly recognizable and laughed at, but I can see where that would cause concern if you weren't familiar with the movie.

I just wanted to add that in the interest of us assuming the best intentions rather than the worst when something offends us.

Personally, I'm glad to see the animated gif's done away with. I should maybe duck when I say this, but I wouldn't mind seeing the animated emoticons done away with as well.

Thanks Lance, I think they were very distracting when trying to read posts.

Might be too much to drop the animated emoticons. But I, too, have been annoyed with them from the very beginning (I'm not talking here, they're in most IM clients as well)

The emoticons come with the software. They are harder to get rid of... but I agree.

I think the only guys I offended were the two drivers (that I had passed before the turn) following me through the corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca many years ago!

My sincere apologies to everyone who has been annoyed by my repeated abuse of the emoticons, i will sincerely try to be more serious because laughter can be a double edged sword by either becoming a circus that seems to have no end in sight or turn into verbal abuse if people are misinterpreted or just not understood at all. thanks for putting a OT section, i think it was needed here.

Hesh, I have to admit, that was one unnerving avatar. I'm glad to have gotten a copy saved to my hard drive before it disappeared. Absolutely crazy it was, now a fading memory.

Now the guy punching the heck out of something, that thing really made me sit back from the screen. Wow was it violent. Thanks Jon for the explanation.

The OT forum is a great idea too. The Official Reformed Luthiers Forum, can't beat it. Let's talk guitars.

Lets not get too carried away with apologies there Serge. Your very well known as a humble and gentle soul, never whating to upset the balance and your emoticons are just part of who you are.

I for one think that emoticons can be effective in a post and sometimes help with typed communication. It has to be one of the hardest communications out there (other than one language to another). Personally I hate typed communication, I would much rather speak face to face with someone, but that's just not possible here so typed it will have to be.

This is one apologizing group, that is a good thing, if someone gets offended everyone is good to chime in and help the situation out, cause we have so much fun.

The little smilly faces with all the expressions are OK with me, it was those contantly moving little Avatars that were causing seizures.

Thanks Rod, i just wanted to make sure, just in case, i often wonder if i over do it and it is easy for me to do so, being of a compulsive nature. So thanks bud for your unequivical support that i really appreciate but i feel i still have to take note of what's being said between the lines here and there, this group is so kind that people might not even want to hurt my feelings ...and for that, all of you who make the core of this forum have a special place...you know where...

Serge, you without the smiley faces would be like gin without tonic, unthinkeable in a civilised world. They are part of who you are, don't stop using them!
