Hey everyone, Yea, it is not a guitar, but probably a more important build. After screwing up yet again, on my latest guitar, I decided it was time to stop and make a good mold. I think this is called a coffin mold, but I am not sure. It will completely contain the sides to keep everything properly aligned. I have been working off of an open workboard, and I just can not get things correctly done. My latest pictured below, henceforth know as the "Dreadical", looks like a classical from the front, and a dread from the back. The reason? I did not properly set the upper bout sides at 90 degrees when I glued up the top. I managed to pull both sides in about 1/4 inch, thus taking away the nice curves of a classical when viewed from the back. Chalk up another one for the island of misfit guitars. Jeff |

Yeah that back is going to be very nice. Good job on the mold. I think it is important to continue to try to get the sides bent as close as possible to that shape so you don't clamp it under weird pressure. But I think that you will find that mold a very good investment in time that will pay off each time you use it. |

Looking good, Jeff. I use a mold the full height of my guitar and really like it. Ron |

Beautiful mold Jeff, worth the extra time to build it right and it will be helpful to get your sides straight! Love that rosette BTW! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
