Hi fellows, Last night was a big night of resawing at my place, my bud Alain came by with his awesome wood and we started cutting some Wenge, Zebra wood, and Makore. Those exotic hardwoods are tough on saw blades and can be really toxic so we used the little masks, luckily, i had purchased an air filter in the morning

Here's the zootfinder

setting up the fence

Me, after cutting some wenge

My concentrated pal! What a storm!

Al will correct me if i'm wrong here but i think we just had finished resawing one slice of makore that was 12" wide and the blade was either dull or something and it made a lot of smoke in the shop, we had to open up the doors and let the fresh air in!

It even made this guy thirsty!

Here are 3 shots of the wenge and Zebra, we had to stop at 11h30 pm, the sawdust was really everywhere but it was a lot to fun to experience cutting real zoot on my bandsaw!

Thanks for watching

Yes guys, it was, the true measure of a luthier's pleasure is the quantity of sawdust he has gathered on his shoulders multiplied by all he had vacuumed!

I knew that scent seemed familiar; must have been a Southerly wind that evening

Serge,

Those paper masks are for painting or surgery. Not for woodworking. You
need a HEPA mask with N95 approval. Next time protect yourself and your
friend better, wear long sleeves and a proper mask. This type of exposure is
cumulative.

Careful dude! You don't want to learn the hard way like a lot of us did.

Kent, yes, you're so right, that was the only masks i had readily available and i feel ashamed that i have purchased so many tools and no HEPA masks yet , i'm not purchasing anything else untill i have one of those masks and will make sure to have full protection soon. i wanna be able to have fun for many many years to come. Thanks for the reminder Kent, where do buy yours and what's the price range of those please?

Billy, i knew you were starting to miss my friend!

Al and Paul, yes, it was saw dust heaven!

Hesh, we were just singing "Smokin' in the boys room" and that cloud appeared out of no where! he he he

Looks like a blast, Serge!! Good experience for you to get to know that bandsaw.

"He was naked, singing on the windmill. Said he flew up there. I had to fly up and get him down."

Anyone remember that one?

A good quality 3M respirator and some HEPA-rated dust cartridges for the thing only costs between 15 and 25 bucks. Go get ye one!

I'm getting bandsaw envy as the Day of Sawing gets closer for me (have money, now to sort out a ride and make appointment to pick up giant saw 'o doooooom).

Yes, that sure was a blast... Good masks, for sure next time... We're brand spanking new at this so of course our zeal over rode our good common sense.

Funny, I don't recall seeing any smoke while I was there... Maybe it was those dark glasses...

Serge, my good friend, I'm anxiously looking forward to round 2...

Yeah, we were sort of like Cheech and Chong, "UP in smoke" but i swear we were not naked!

Serge, to be safe, you both should be wearing 2 masks, a HEPA and a mask like Hesh wears on his avatar!.... Just to be safe

Maybe the hat too!

Sounds good Billy, will get the HEPA masks ASAP! Can you send me 2 El Kabong masks, looked everywhere but could not find any?
