Here is the finished product. I took it to Banjo camp and got rave reviews on Craig's Sitting Bull inlay.

Here's the guitar stuff

Brazilian overlay on the armrest which matches the brazilian binding.

There was a pitch pocket on the top near the FBE that surprised me on finish sanding. So, a tatoo hide that.

Nice Koa don't you think?

That banjo is just awesome John. Craigs Sitting Bull is incredible.I really like the sunburst too.Are you going to be building more banjo's now or is this just 1 for fun? Super job on the guitar too! The koa IS beautiful Indeed!

Way to go, John!! Love both. Did you build the banjo rim?
If so, can you detail how you did it. There's one in my future.

John, OUTSTANDING!!!

There is just too much beauty in this post, it's really great craftmanship everywhere, you and others here know how to treat us well in terms of excellence!

Both the banjo and the guitar are just to die for!

Thanks guys. I always appreciate the kind remarks

Old man...I just bought the maple rim from Stew Mac and then put some homemade maple veneer on the outside to jazz it up. I may make another, I don't know, but I did have fun learning to play it and will persue that.

John,

That little Laydie is just gorgeous! And the guitar.. whew!

But then we wouldn't have expected anything less.

Got me yearning to take up banjo again!

I have never been a big Banjo fan.... until now. That one is beautiful... but no more than the guitar!

Great work! First Class!

John, as one banjo player to another, absolutely superb! I'd love to hear it, and I'm glad you didn't put a resonator on the back, that old open sound is really great and can sometimes be improved with a duster in the back, for that really clunky old sound. I bet you had a good time at the camp and you could at least look the part .

Oh great guitar by the way, but when it's got Kinnaird on the label that can be taken as read.

I'll PM you with my shipping address for the banjo.

Colin

I want the bottom style guitar John.. But you know that

Beautiful work as always. Drop dead style.

I am cutting your rose now.

Materials:
Green sea snail (not cheap!),
Ivory, gold pearl, MOP, white river pearl, red abalone, Brown lip pearl.

More soon.

Fantastic, John. Both instruments. And here I am again, a guy who doesn't like sunbursts, thinking the back of that banjo looks really great. I'd trade you my banjo for that one in a heartbeat. That's a really beautiful instrument.

Very inspiring work.

Thanks mucho guys.
Colin, you hit pretty close to the mark. My playing at the old time music camp was feeble at best. I'm a poser, but determined to improve.

Todd, I think sunburst finishes look better on some instruments, banjos may be one of the better places for them.

Craig, I can't wait to see that back and side wood. Must get busy on the neck. The rose sounds like it will be handsome.

Absolutely wonderful work.

Just a detail, but we have been talking about bridges here a lot lately. Take a look at that brige, THAT's a handsome bridge!

Great work as usual and Craig's inlay is just outstanding. Did you do the finishing yourself? I also really like your tatoo on the guitar as it makes it unique but not overly distracting.

Very Nice!! Outstanding staining on the banjo and the guitar is gorgeous! Very Nice!!!

The photography is a real touch too! Looks like one light box high and front is that it! kind of brooding!

Thanks Again guys
Billy, I have a make shift photo setup with 4 construction lights bouncing off a ceiling that slopes at 45 degrees to the subject. The ceiling is part of a knee wall in a dormer and there is plenty of light if I use a tripod and a fairly slow shutter speed.

Bro, just for you

Thanks Lance
At least the banjo has strings. It's not a horn or drum, that should mean a something

One really strange concert I attended while at the Old Time Music camp was a banjo/accordian duet. What a hoot.
