Here's some purfling I just finished making up...Got tired of using the "out of the box" stuff, and made this up to compliment a new rosette. ![]() It's made up from b/maple/cocobolo/maple/b, with maple dividers between the cocobolo pieces. The cocobolo pieces are 1" long. Here's the matching rosette: ![]() Don't look too closely at the inside of the guitar...it's dirty in there! Needless to say, this one's still pretty rough... ![]() |

So Russ, how much did that suck making those? They look awesome but I think I'd be pulling my hair out after laying up the first couple of lams. |

Paul...to put it in mathemetical terms: S = 10? where S= SUCK!!!!!! ![]() Pretty fiddly and messy operation, this...I don't recommend it to anyone. If I were doing any number of these, I think I would farm it out. Jeff...to make these, I made up a laminate starting with a 6" x 36" piece of black laminate, then glued a maple veneer on top of that...the "filling" is 1" x 6" pieces of .050" cocobolo, with a lam of maple glued to one edge of each piece...these are stacked down the length of the b/maple lam. Then i repeated the bottom lam on top. making a sandwich. Then I ran this "sandwich" through the table saw , cutting 3mm strips of purfling. WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Quick question: what black laminate did you use, and where did you get it from? Lookin' good, by the way! Mattia |

Mattia, I used the black fiber veneer from LMI. I got the maple veneer from them also. The Zootman provided me with an "orphaned" cocobolo side to use for the filling. |
