I thought we needed some fun around here. At least in New England, it's apparently monsoon season, so since I'm stuck indoors.... So what is it? ![]() Here's another one....different board: ![]() |

Looks brazilionish, but I'd say Madagascar Rosewood. Hmmm... looks like it may be too wide for MR though. Best, Michael |

I would somewhat lean towards BRW or Madagascar Rosewood? |

Paul wins the Tub O' Lard. It's Maccassar Ebony, or at least that's what the guy at the wood place says it is. He said it's from somewhere in SE Asia. This will make some nice OO sized sets, which I won't be keeping... Raining...? It's not raining...it's just a continuous flood of water dropping out of the sky that's flooding everything...I wish old Noah were here. I just had a guy over to look at my old Rockwell bandsaw. All of a sudden I hear water running...... I look over to the opposite wall, and there pouring in through the window well window is a river of water. Next thing I know we're standing in it clear across the shop. To make matters worse, he didn't buy the saw. Meanwhile my wife is on the first floor fratically trying to stop water from pouring in through the picture window frame. It seems the gutter clogged and the water was backing up into the wall. Wonderful. What a day. At least I scored some great wood earlier... Back to the wet-vac... |

Bob, that's the ebony I was telling you about last weekend. It's pretty cool looking, very Brazilian Rosewood looking. There's a good 4 OO sets in there. Pretty wood - I thought it was old growth BRW at first when I saw it, but it's not quite the right color for it. |

Looks very nice Don. I have a stiff neck so I can't look up. Looks similar to stuff Gilmer has. http://www.gilmerwood.com/boards_asian-ebony_unique.htm |

I think you may have it nailed. If correct, this is also known as Malaysian Blackwood, which is a killer tonewood. Yippee!!!!!!! ![]() I'm trying to decide on whether I will add on some pieces to make 4-piece backs so they can be dread sized sets. Maybe. Sure is pretty. I can't wait to saw it on that new Laguna! |

Whooo Hoooo..... It was the only option left, I was out of rosewood choices that fit that pattern... Need to fry me up some taters with that Lard :) Sorry for the weather Don, it's sunny and warm here, in fact we have been painting the sides for the CNC cabinet this afternoon and moved it all outside to see if they would dry quicker (I'm waiting for them to bubble or something like that) ![]() Cheers -Paul- |

Don, It IS Malaysian Blackwood. Some of the wood importers will sell it as a Macassar Ebony or Asian Ebony and for all intents and purposes it is. It is a very nice tonewood and really pretty under a finish for sure! |
