Hey everyone

Tonight I did a few drawings based off the current SJ pattern I have
(Olson/Ryan). First I extended the waste 1/4" on each half, so by 1/2"
total. Next, I played with the lines of the lower bout. I left the width the
same, but one has less arch in the curve from the tail block. In reality, it's
about 1/4" at the area of greatest difference. My question is what sort of
tonal change this will make, theoretically? Bracing the same, will reducing
the arch of this curve significantly decrease the bass, or is this type of
difference in this area most likely un-noticable by the ear?         &n bsp;

I tried my best to represent what I'm talking about with photoshop. The
black outline represents the arch of the SJ I currently have drawn up, with
the widended waste. The wood outline shows where I decreased the arch.

The black arch is exagerated, but you get the idea. I'm not MichaelP
when it comes to illustration! James Orr38893.1230555556

I am not really following you regarding the lower bout... but I haven't been up all that long yet.

Certainly I am not the final word on this, but.. here are a couple of thoughts.

Regarding the waist, that might make a surprising difference. As the x crosses into the upper bout on the original you should look how close it comes to the sides of the guitar, if it is close, and now there is a lot more room my guess is you will find this guitar will be louder and bassier than the original. All things being equal it will give you a looser vibrating plate and you will probably notice the biggest change in bass and volume.

Again, all of this is speculation, can you show before and after of where the brace positions will lie?

I haven't been up too long either. I'm going to grab another sheet of
butcher paper at church this morning along with three colored pencils.
I'll draw each of the three shapes in separate colors to show the
differences I made. I'll put the braces layout on there as well. e
