Doc Watson, of course. I grew up only twenty miles from his hometown of Deep Gap, North Carolina, an area enriched with bluegrass.

Now, tell us who the others are.

Yeah Mario, Doc's incredible. There sure aren't many around like Doc. In that part of North Carolina, people are born with bluegrass in their blood. I took it for granted, growing up around so many great bluegrass musicians. Now, I live in an area which doesn't have much of a bluegrass scene at all and the bands that are around, aren't that great. In my opinion, bluegrass musicians are some of the greatest (if not the greatest) musicians out there.

I remember reading an interview somewhere with Darius Rucker, the lead singer for Hootie and the Blowfish. He was talking about being in a record store and hearing the most incredible acoustic guitar being played over the sound system. He asked the store owner whose CD he was playing and he said Doc Watson. He then bought about everything that Doc Watson ever recorded and listened to his stuff non-stop. Within a year Hootie met Doc and actually invited them to Merlefest. He invited them out on stage where they actually did a bluegrass version of "Let Her Cry." Of course that's why Hootie's second album got bashed by the critics. They said it sounded to "bluegrassy".
