African Guitar Fingerboard fretted

     I just wandered in from doing the final fret polishing and set up on the African Missions Trip Guitar. The inlay held onto the continuity of its subject matter nicely and looks fine broken up by fret and string lines.

   Here are a few photos of the fingerboard inlay under frets and a set of strings and I'll post some nice shots of the entire finished guitar later today or tomorrow.

   I may ahev graphic guy who might be willing to print and donate a few poster size images of this guitar or just a feature shot of the inlay to be sold to embellish the offering to the orphanage and to enable us to take some funds in hand to get it atsrted while we're there. He's going to print me one for the wallof my shop as a reminder of the things we can do for others if we set our minds and hearts to them.

Hi Kevin - I like how you kept a black line at the edge of the inlay down the side of the fretboard - how was that done ??? Was it bound in, or just careful routing and then touch sanding the inlay pieces to fit straight and tight against it ???TonyKarol38898.3430555556

Serge,
   The fingerboard binding id Bubinga measuring .080" thick and inside of it are two purfling lines eac measuring .020" one of which is Ugandan Cypress and another of Bloodwood.

   The body binding is alos Bubinga, but measures .075" thick.


Tony,
   That thin black line between the inlay and the fingerboard purfling is simply fingerboard that is left in place. I like to border anu inlay that is able to fill the fingerboard by leaving this thin line because it allows the impact of the purfling scheme to remain powerful.

Thanks again for all of the flattering compliments and also thanks again to all of the OLF members who made the guitar and the support that it will become for the orphans a possibility. This guitar would most likely not have been able to be built if it weren't for yourhelp.

    I'll be taking the set of final images of the completed guitar later today or tonight and will post them as soon as I do.

Kevin, i just bound my fretboard with purple heart today and it was my first time doing this and i can now appreciate better what i see up above, it also tells me that i can hope of building something nice like that one day, even if i'm 75 years old then!
