I am curious how many of you are planning on selling anything in the OLF swap meet. Our hope is that this will be a really BIG event and very fun for everyone. So scour your shops to sell all of that stuff you no longer want, or will never use. I found a ton of stuff to sell.

Love the idea of the swap meet Brock, but I think people will need to state clearly in their listing if they will post international or not. It is not that sending stuff overseas is any more difficult or posses any more risk to a vendor of being duped, especially if they accept Paypal. It is just that some people have a phobia about dealing with all those two headed aliens living outside their own continent if you know what I mean

The event is happening July 10th through the 21st. The fees are a flat $35 to set up a "table" and sell as much stuff as you like -- just a fraction of what you will probably make on one set of wood. As far as selling internationally, I don't have a problem with it and I suspect that most everyone else won't either. There may however be certain products that are hard for individual shippers to send over seas. Obviously some woods are problematic, and any chemicals requiring a hazardous materials declaration and MSDS sheet can be troublesome -- but for most stuff I don't think it should be too big of an issue. |

I must have missed earlier discussion of this. I assume we're talking about a virtual "meet"? Would a person have to be available to be online during the meet? I'll be off camping during much of that time. |

We are opening another discussion topic during that time and it will run in the forum. I supposse you could run it in absentia, but I would just make that was well communicated. Every participant will get their own thread within the new discussion topic and they can showcase their wares, wheel, deal and swap. Just like a "real" swap meet, only in the virtual space. |

Yes. Anybody can buy. For that matter anybody can sell, you just need to pre arrange it with Lance or I first. |

Broc, I would like in on the swap meet but I leave in the AM for Montreal and won't be back until the 12th. It will take me a few days to get some stuff rounded up. I won't have pc access until I return. Can the dates be extended for a special circumstance such as mine? or is it, I snooze and lose? Or would this run for a certain time span determined by when you sign up? |

I think it will be a lot more fun if the whole community gets involved. |

I wish I had enough stuff to sell but sadly, my sickness takes precedence...i too have WAS and TAS. Has anyone else looked through their stuff and found they couldn't part with anything but happened to accidentally make room for new stuff?

Brock, I certainly have wood that I could offer. I am curious though about how I will be able to present the pictures and so forth. Would you want pictures posted in the thread you mentioned or would it be acceptable to link to my site? Also would there be access to the thread prior to the start of the swap, or would we have to get to it after it starts? Where and what method of payment for the registration fee is prefered (Pay Pal?). And a comment: It may be worth having a section(maybe a common thread) that has a lower registration fee. This would allow people that may have a couple small parts they don't need, and would like to offer to other board members a place to participate. Maybe a set price cap for that thread or what have you. I am thinking of the guy that has a couple sets of gold tuners (Gotohs??) and cost of admission would make it impossible to participate (well without losing $$). |

These are all great questions. The threads are open now to current advertisers. They can get in and set up shop ahead of time. "The thinking" behind this is that our current sponsors will probably have more to sell and need the extra time to set up, plus it is a nice "bonus" we can offer to our advertisers (afterall, they do pay the bills that help keep the lights on...) The rest of the world can set up on the 10th (or any time there after). With that said though, an enterprising person might create a thread now, store the text of it in a notepad file, then post it on the day of launch. In 15 or 20 minutes you could have a very complex sale up and running. Regarding linking to your site... The "reason" we are doing this is because the summer months are a little slow on the boards and we thought it would be a lot of fun to have a wild and woolly bazzar type of event. So from that perspective it kind of defeats the purpose to link everyone out to different web sites. I would prefer the showcasing, bartering and committments are made within the threads. However, if you want to link to your web site to a "check out" routine to smooth out the operational end of things that is fine. Regarding the cost. Lance and I really tossed this one around. $35 seemed like a fair price considering that people can sell as much as they like and it is only a fraction of the cost of a set of wood (which I suspect will be the bulk of what is bought and sold), and we had some concerns that other "professional sellers" who are members but not advertisers may want to participate and it didn't seem quite fair to let them sell 3 metric tons of wood for $10 when our loyal sponsors are helping us pay the bills and promote the forum. (I realize $35 isn't much to a professional seller either, but the point remains the same). However, I understand your point, and I wish I had a better answer for you. At least the proceeds we earn go to help further the community. Regarding Payment. Yes, pay pal is the preferred method. The account is lance@luthiersforum.com |

Thanks Brock, That helps. I have software that I use to generate thumbnail galleries (makes it easier for posting more pics and viewing faster). I have sold a bit of wood through another forum, although I am definately not doing it as a business (more or less to help guys that had trouble finding wood, and to keep the prices down for them). I don't have any issue with $35 for myself (like you said it is for the board). I am sure that will be plenty of time for set up. Honestly I felt a little odd about offering wood. Mainly because I wouldn't want to step on advertisers toes as they keep the site running, and I don't have enough time to become a full time seller. Not to mention I am very new to the board and didn't want to seem like I was trying to take advantage. I will limit how much I put up for sale (if I place too much up just let me know and I will adjust however you would like). It sounds like it will be fun. Now I just have to pick what to offer.
