Looking for a couple strips of carbon fibre 1/16" x 3/16" (1.5MM x 4.5MM)
Length is not important as they will be cut into 2" (50MM) lengths.

StewMac has them along with a tutorial on the use and cutting of it but I am not sure if they have it in that size.

I didn't see anything in that size at Jim's Los Alamos site but perhaps he would have some sizes not listed.

That's an odd size request(thick and narrow), and you may need to have them custom made for you. Jim at Los Alamos is open to making custom sizes, so go ahead and ask.

What is the intended use?

These are reinforcement strips to be bonded to the underside of floating pickups to prevent breakage during shipping. I've lost three of them over the last couple years to UPS in spite of cushioning during shipment.

Mentioning UPS reminded me that I'm waiting on a replacement power supply for my CNC computer and wondering whether UPS is running today.

Phil--I see that you and I have the same birthdate with the exception of yours being 5 years "younger". And I also notice that you are a "retired mechanical engineer".

Actually, Nelson, my birthday was wrong on my profile. Somehow I entered 2/7/51, but it's really 7/2/51. (yesterday). So now I can get into movies for less.

And, I'm now slightly un-retired - I'm doing some consulting work - just a few hours a week.
The great thing about being a consultant is that they think you know what you're talking about (whether you do or not).

Nelson, here's a thought. Rather than use thin carbon fibre strips you might want to consider using carbon fibre weave. It's pretty easy to apply, cut a small piece of the weave and apply epoxy over it. It's nice and thin and very strong.

I've used it to secure the tab on a floating pickup to the underside of the finger rest.

Anthony--I think I need to start putting a G-force meter inside each case and have the receiver report the reading. Maybe an Onstar transceiver for realtime tracking with recording of sudden changes in altitude at or near ground level greater than 10 ft.
