When using curved rosette strips (the ones I saw have an inner diameter of 4.5"), how do you use these to make a tighter curve around the rosette? Do you have to break it in a bunch of places to make it fit in a tight curve? How do you all do this? It's not flexible, right?

John...Simply break them around the curve...the breaks line up and are virtually seamless. I've done 2 so far and it was quite easy. The key is to get the channel perfectly cut and the purfling in place. I used the teflon spacer and found it went together quite well. If I can do it...anyone can!

JJ,

So, when you break them, aren't there a bunch of little cracks around the rosette? Do these cracks just get filled with epoxy or CA? How do you cover up all the little spaces?

Flooding with CA glues the breaks together. I've used Abalam and I can not detect where the fractures were. The varigated coloring of the shell actually masks the fractures and it looks quite uniform.

Make sure to seal the wood with shellac before using CA or it will turn the wood yellow under the finish.
