Does the forum get a comission on sales if we get to their website via links on the OLF when we go to place our orders? Whenever I buy stuff from Stewmac for example, I always come here and browse to their site via the links at the top of the page, thinking that the forum might benefit in some way. Lance & Brock which way is better? It's faster to just bookmark sponsors sites and get there that way. Is it of benefit to anybody to go there, via here?

There are 3 working models.

1) Sponsors like Stewmac track the sales generated through the site. We don't get a commission on each order, but when you browse here first and then click through the advertising to their site that reaffirms the value of their investment. So we would appreciate it if you would click through the advertising.

2) Some advertisers pay us a flat fee, and have a good handle on who is part of the OLF and who isn't.

3) Links such as Amazon etc, are pure affiliate programs, we are only compensated from these sections as our members click through and buy. This is one place where it would be great if people remember to click through when purchasing. If a product you want isn't listed in the tool shed, just search for it with the search box. We get compensated for everything purchased through our links in this area, or anything you search on.

I was also unaware as well, I have started purchasing most if not all of my supplies from OLF Sponsors, but did not realize that going through the site to the advertisers was of benefit, sorry, I will comply in the future as well. PaulB, thanks for asking and Brock for answering.

Stewmac is the only company (for now) that is tracking the source of the click throughs. Others may also do that as time goes on.

I am like you. I buy 90% of my stuff from sponsors, not JUST because they sponsor the board but because they end up being friends after hanging out in our community for a while.

Brock,

So, Let's say I want to go through Amazon to buy $500 worth of textbooks for next semester. Will the OLF get credit if I come here first, and then click on the Amazon link to do my shopping? It sounds like as long as I follow the OLF link to get to Amazon, the OLF should get credit, right?

If you use the search box to find the books in our Tool shed, then yes, we will get the credit.

That would be great.... thanks for thinking of this.
