Hi Folks,

Seems as it's inlay week here at the OLF, so I thought I'd better contribute.

This one's yet another Ukulele inlay, with the piece chosen to simulate filtered light/ bubbles through the water.

Next two are part of a transformed Breedlove.
The project began when the customer wanted to cover the bare- breasted factory mermaid. It became "Dancing Dolphins". My favorite piece is the last dolphin shown with the "3 D" tail over the binding.

Next two are before and after,(with the "bikini top" added).

Lastly, here's a nice floral pickguard a whopping .023 thick.

Thanks for looking!
Paul

I really like the view. What are the materials for the dolphins? Looks like red abalone, but is it a plastic?

Nice add on too! CLEAN!!!!!clavin38917.8971643519

Paul - fabulous! I really like the mermaid -- the addition of the bikini top is really classy (well now that I know what she really looks like )

What did you use for tail on the mermaid?

The dolphins are indeed red ab. I received about 2 dozen 2"x2" blanks from Australia a year ago. They were perfect for this project.

Anthony- The mermaid is factory done; the material on the tail is mammoth ivory surrounding some ab heart abalam.

Paul,

Fabulous work!!

How come the dolphins nipples never get highlighted in inlay work? I suppose that's the definition of "art" I nominate you for "Best Tasteful and Creative Use of a Dolphin Award 2006"

Great work - how did you get so close to the neck purf with some of the inlaying and not mark it - I figure it was cut out clsoe by hand with a scalpel/chisel ??? Option 2 may have been a sweet paua bikini top - strapless !!!! That would have left her mane of hair alone !!!

Tony,
Actually the cut is with a 1/32" up spiral, with a slight "push" of the pointed edge of the inlay into the space. I have used a scalpel as well, depending on the application.
