I have an ebay/paypal account and have been buying with paypal for a long time, but I have never had anyone send me money to my paypal account. My question is::: Is it just sent to my registered email address at paypal?

Yeah, you just give the payer your email address that's registered with Paypal. Then you can log into Paypal and transfer that money back to your checking/savings account after the transaction's complete.

I imagine you would have to be 'verified' i.e., they need your bank information... I've had to get 'verified' recently as they will not let me just use my credit card anymore...

Hesh is 100 percent right ... never click on an email link to PayPal or any other financial institution -- no matter how real it looks. You may find your bank account cleaned out.

Some of the phishing attempts have gotten very sophisticated. I've had some come in using my ebay ID showing authentic, currently live ebay listings. Scary. Then again, there are some that are hilarious in their stupidity.

I had one the other day that supposedly was someone asking a question about one of my listings. I knew it was a spoof because it it was not addressed to my registered "real" name.

The question: "Do you ship to New Jersey?"

I'm in Florida and my listings say so!

Besides, I also ship internationally, so that oughtta cover New Jersey. Although I would expect some language difficulties.

What Hesh just said is *VERY IMPORTANT*. If you breazed through it, go back and read it again. These fake emails actually look like a real PayPal email, with graphics and all, but they are designed to fool you and steal your hard-earned dollars. Don't be a victim. If you receive any email from what seems to be PayPal, and you're not sure, forward a copy to spoof@paypal.com.

I'm terrified and cross eyed!

I've been getting the spoof pay pal e mails almost daily for a few years now.
What I did notice on these,as well as any other so called "official" sites e mails, is that they always refer to you as ,"Dear pay pal customer"

If it's legit, such as quarterly account reports from pay pal, the header will refer to your actual name from your account such as, "Dear Paul Bordeaux",never just dear pay pal customer.

Also, any legitimate company will never ask for account info via e mail.

1. Always transfer monies out of PayPal to your bank immediately.

This is a principal that saved me tremendous grief recently. Moments before freezing my account recently I'd transferred close to ten thousand dollars out.

Paypal can freeze your account at any time it wants then make demands you send everything they ask. This is exactly what happened and it took over ten days to clear up.

They never told me what was up except that they needed additional verification. Gee, you'd think five years of business would be plenty verification. So, I complied and now I'm back on Ebay selling again.

I always considered PayPal on friendly terms. Now I see it as strictly business. Be forewarned and transfer all cash out immediately to your bank. I've never lost a dime using PayPal, knock on rosewood and adirondack.Dickey38921.8040740741

Thanks, Bruce, that's very good to know up front. I don't expect any money coming in as I haven't sold anything, and don't really have plans to. But who knows?
