As I'm watching the Open championship, I can't help but cheer for Chris DiMarco. What a grinder that guy is. He just holed a brilliant 45 footer on the fourteenth for par... I jumped out of my chair!!! At the moment, he's at -14, one behind Woods, the leader... Man, I really hope he wins. Probably one of the only players who doesn't fold when it comes down to chasing Tiger. True, he's not paired with him, but at Augusta, he won my support grinding it out against El Tigre... Go Chris!!! You deserve a Major for all the heart and guts you display. Go get it! |

Alain...Looking forward to meeting you at Bob's. Sounds like you're also a true golf fan! When we run out of guitar topics, I'm sure we can tell some great golf stories if we can still speak coherently! BTW...The tournament was one of the most dramatic and emotional for me since Payne Stewart won the US Open at Pinehurst in 1999. Chris DiMarco will have his day...he's a gutty performer and will prevail soon. I believe that Tiger is arguably the most formidible champion in any sport in our lifetime. He comes from another planet! To be able to change his game to suit the conditions for 4 days and win this tournament is astounding...he demonstrated incredible discipline, committment and execution. |

I agree. What I like about Tiger is his single-mindedness. When I read his book, it was clear that he's always trying to learn and compete with himself. I don't like his temper, but the outbursts are a small thing. I really appreciate his drivenness. I also appreciate his sportsmanship. He competes by all means, but after the round he shakes hands. |

JJ, indeed, Tiger is not from this world... They always say that they have to 'Tiger proof' a course. This time around, he used drive ONCE in 72 holes! Amazing. Led the field in G.I.R.'s I'm also a huge tiger fan. I especially loved the way he was with his dad. He reminds me very much of the relationship I have with my father. My dad's my best friend and favorite driking budy... And very luckily, I still have him around and he's in good shape, if a bit overweight... As I saw him embrace Steve on the 18th once it was all said and done... Well, let's just say I could imagine Earl looking on filled with Pride... My second favorite though, is Chris. Chris lost his mother too over the July 4th week-end... He played superbly and would have won had it not been for Tiger's flawless performance... James, you have it right. When the game is on, he's intense and focused and always stays in the moment. Like his father taught him, 'go for the jugular!... there's always time to be a gentleman after the game'... I also notice that he'll always aknowledge a superb shot from an oponent. The man has it all. And you can tell that he always wants to improve. He'll probably never be fully satisfied with his game. That's the beauty of golf... I'd be VERY surprised if he doesn't wind up with over 20 Majors once all is said and done. |
