Hey boys and girls,
I was working on preliminary label design for the build #2 and ran into an issue getting everyone involved name on the label.

Anyway I was wondering if there are objections to having the dedication on the label just stating "Material and Labor generously donated by the membership of the Official Luthier's Forum". There is more to the dedication than that but before I submit it, I wanted to see if there were objections to not mention every-one's name on the label and instead maybe provide a copy of the dedication printed on parchment and framed with every-one's name listed there.

Michael, have you ever seen the label that was made for the 13th fret guitar? I was pretty creative, it may give you some ideas? Personally, Id like to see every-ones name on the label, but that's just my opinion, I'm open to what the majority feels.

That's what I was thinking, a double label might just be required to get everyone on there.

I am not going to do a double lable tilted . The guitar will be assembled and will be to hard to get the secnd half in there and good and square. Maybe a side by side the normal orienttion, if I come up with a good idea for that.MichaelP38932.6331828704

Kevin Ansberry of GuitarPix did the label as well as a digital mock up of what the finished instrument would look like, given the parameters at the get go (woods, trim, etc)

The 13th Fret guitar was completed when I put the 2 halves inside. Square an edge up with the back center strip and work outward toward the waist. I used 3M adhesive that comes in the paper/wax paper "sandwich". Peel one side off and attach to the label. Trim up, then peel off the backing paper and the label is ready to stick in place.
It looks really nice and can be read as a player holds the instrument.

Somehow this project went south after someone suggested it be auctioned off, I always considered it to be Daves guitar, and when I did my part, it was for Dave.

There was a lot of "gnashing of teeth" (after the fact) over this issue, but I'm with Lance on this. We all built it for the 13th Fret and if it was to be "auctioned off", the proceeds were to help defray costs of running the site.
I won't go into details here about the issue, but it did sour Dave to the whole project. A shame. It was a great idea and with (or in spite of) a dozen builders involved, it did come out to sound very nice.

She's good!!! No mention of her husband or his cool truss rods, though. However, have you guys seen her link to their "guitar care" products? They've got beautiful end-pin jacks in brass and wood that are a tapered press-fit--no drilling required. They're quite expensive (to me, anyway), but for builders who hate those chrome jacks and are already shelling out for Gotoh Deltas or Waverlys, they might be just what you've been looking for.

Carlton, cool find. If you follow the links further, they make the jacks with hardwood too.

Opinion: The OLF has a core group, but many other members. They didn't build this guitar, you guys did. I recommend that even if a relatively small font has to be used, that the builders - the actual luthiers that built it - be specifically mentioned.

I would say something like

Built By: ____________ and _____________ and ____________ (etc.) and maybe print the luthiers' names below a blank line for each to sign.

Then, I'd have another section on the label:

Materials Donated By: Bob C,...... (etc.) perhaps listing the major material contributors first. I only paid for the fingerboard, and I don't mind being left off the label, to make sure there is room for the major contributors.

My reasoning? After the initial journey to the recipient, the guitar will never travel with the separate parchment, and the individuals responsible for this guitar will lose the credit you deserve.

Sounds good to me as I have yet to do my part. Maybe, also, a "document" to go with the instrument listing all the participants...builders and contributors, regardless of the level of participation. That would be a long term track of all the efforts and contributions that went into the instrument. Maybe even have Lance archive a copy on the site so that IF it ever gets separated from the instrument, the then current "owner" could get all the pertinent data.
